What's better Past or Present ??
How difficult or how easy is it to build something. Well, this piece is about the difference in the architecture of ancient India and 21st century India.
It was far easy to build something in ancient times than it is in this new world order today. Though, our ancestors were unaware of any complex technology, any machinery. But those monuments still remain the heart throb of this digital generation. It’s Indian archaeological heritage which attracts the tourists from all around the word and make them visit this ancient land of heritage.
The structural beauty of our monuments is like fairy tales carved out of stones and bricks.
Brihadeswara Temple, Tanjavur
Akshardham Temple, Delhi
Well, how many among us know that The World's First Granite Temple is the Brihadeswara Temple at Tanjavur, Tamil Nadu. The Shikhara of the temple is made from a single 80-tonne piece of granite. This magnificent temple was built in just five years, (between 1004 AD and 1009 AD) during the reign of Rajaraja Chola. This is exactly the same time taken to build Akshardham temple of Delhi.
Now, you can imagine where we are standing today. In spite of enumerable technologies and inventions we are unable to increase our pace of construction. Today our government is not able to complete a flyover in five years but in 1009 AD Rajaraja chola was able to build world’s first granite temple. I wish we can have those great architects back. At least we the citizens of this nation will have more time to be productive to the society if we have faster built infrastructure to work for our convenience.
